BBM is Back!

Since it has been announced I written articles entitled whatsapp vs bbm and First look at BBM for Android. Now that BBM for Android and iOS is official its apparent that I was very wrong. My exact statement was "I can't help but think it may be to late for Blackberry and BBM". Since its release, BBM was downloaded an astounding 10 Millions times in the first 24 hours and is the #1 Free app in the App Store and is in the Top 3 free for Google Play.

“This has been an incredible launch for BBM across Android and iPhone devices. The mobile messaging market is full of opportunity for BBM. We intend to be the leading private social network for everyone who needs the immediate communication and collaboration of instant messaging combined with the privacy, control and reliability delivered through BBM,” said Andrew Bocking, Executive Vice President, BBM at BlackBerry.

This is definitely a great turn around for Blackberry after its financial lost financial lost and possible sale. After all BBM was a pioneer in the messaging industry and based on the buzz it has received, its back!
It may be to early to say if BBM will put WhatsApp down or not but by the looks for it, they'll surely give them a run for their money... or not. (They're free)

GTA V goes in the record books.

GTA V's release was expected to be huge, but i don't think anyone expected it to be of this magnitude. For those that don't know what I'm talking about; on its release day GTA V grossed $800 Million dollars and 2 days after that reached the bench mark of $1 billion dollars.

Today Guinness World Book Records confirmed that the game was:

1.    Best-selling action-adventure video game in 24 hours
2.    Best-selling video game in 24 hours
3.    Fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion
4.    Fastest video game to gross $1 billion
5.    Highest grossing video game in 24 hours
6.    Highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours
7.    Most viewed trailer for an action-adventure video game
For those who haven't purchased your copy as yet. I'd like to say personally that the game is ridiculously fun. Its worth all the hype and attention its getting and once Rockstar gets GTA online sorted out, it will take the game to another level.

YouTube Music Awards?

Yes you did read the title correct. YouTube has announced that on November 3rd LIVE from NYC, they will be having the first ever YouTube Music Awards. It makes sense doesn't it? From aspiring and upcoming artists to stars topping the charts; YouTube has been the hub for artist all around and YouTube has decided it's about time you (the fans) get to award those that you've probably helped become so popular and potentially choose the next big star. It is set to be a live streamed event with appearances and collaborations by Eminem, Lady Gaga and top YouTube stars such as Lindsey Stirling.

Here what they play to do. On October 17th, they will roll out the nominees based on videos that you've liked and shared over the past year, and its your job to choose. I guess you can say its an entire show that is viewers choice. It appears that all nominees will be making officials music videos, covers, interviews etc. for the show.

In my opinion this is the best thing that can happen for young aspiring artists. This will dramatically open more eyes to the tremendous talent out there. That means more opportunities for these folks to further their careers and talents. Id say expect to hear years down the road. Welcome to the 25th YouTube Music Awards.

Microsoft gets it right this time: Surface Pro 2

Microsoft is rolling out it's new tablet. While they're calling it new, It looks and feels pretty much the same.

The physical attributes of the tablet all remain the same. However it comes with more horsepower this time around. So here's whats new:
The Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 is getting a nice upgrade to its processor. A NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor powers the Surface 2 and an Intel i5 Haswell processor that makes the Pro 2 almost 2x faster than most laptops on the market today.
I don't know why the first tablets didn't come full HD but the second series does. Both tablets are now in full 1080p HD. Which is of course an upgrade from its 780p predecessor.

Now, to address some of the issues that consumers had, Microsoft has given the second gen Surface some lean. With 2 positions in the built-in kickstand, you can now angle the tablet at an even lower slope for better viewing if you so choose. The other major fault folks had with the first Surface was its battery life. Simply put, it was horrible. The first gen tablet's battery hardly lasted 3 hours. Surface 2's battery has been completely upgraded and now is reported to last for 10 hours. Microsoft is advertising it as "Stronger. Longer."

To wrap it all in a nice bow, Microsoft has decided to throw in some goodies. For all those that purchase the Surface 2 ($499.00) or the Surface Pro 2 ($899.00), will receive 1 year free of unlimited voice calling to land lines in over 60 countries, and also free Skype WiFi at over 2 million hot spots around the world. On top of that, Microsoft is giving each of you, 200 GB of Sky Drive storage free of charge for 2 years. The tablets will be shipping worldwide on October 22nd but you can pre-order yours today.

You probably won't see any new blackberry devices.

Last week blackberry announced that it had suffered a lost of nearly $1 billion dollars. Also that they would be cutting about 4500 jobs which speaks for about 35-40% of its staff. That is huge. More recently blackberry announced that it would be receiving a bail out.

Yes Fairfax Financial; a  financial service company in Toronto Canada, is about to acquire Blackberry Ltd for a deal worth $4.7 billion dollars. While the deal isn't final, i'm sure blackberry will be doing whatever is necessary to see the deal through as the company is pretty much finished. What Fairfax plans to do is focus on the the enterprise and security sector of business.
What this means is that we should not expect a new blackberry device every quarter or anytime in the near future. After the epic failure in sales of the Blackberry 10 devices, black berry will be focusing on continuing to develop secure software and pushing communications via email and IM for enterprises and government. As it stands blackberry 7 devices continue to lead in sales for the company and will be the primary devices moving forward. Fairfax CEO and Chairman Prem Watsa stated
"We believe this transaction will open an exciting new private chapter for BlackBerry, its customers, carriers and employees. We can deliver immediate value to shareholders, while we continue the execution of a long-term strategy in a private company with a focus on delivering superior and secure enterprise solutions to BlackBerry customers around the world,"
