What you need to know: XboxOne

If there is a PlayStation 4 then there is surely a new Xbox right behind it. Microsoft's new flagship console will be the Xbox One.

Price & Release date:
Xbox One is set to be released for sale one November 22, 2013 in all regions. The price however is a bit steeper than the competition (meaning PS4). Coming in at $499 in the US and  £429 in the UK.

Technical Specs:
-Here's what's under the Xbox's hood. The processor is a 8 core X86-64 that clocks in at 1.75 GHz. It's custom built from the AMD Jaguar platform.
-In terms of memory, it has 8 GB of DDR3 ram accompanied by 32 MB ESRAM for simultaneous read and write options.
-It has a fair share of storage capacity in the 500GB internal hard drive.
-The optical drive will of course play Blu Ray and DVD.
-An AMD Radeon 853 MHz powers the Xbox's Graphics.
-Connectivity capabilities include 3 USB 3.0 ports. A HDMI 1.4 output and 802.11n Wireless with WiFi Direct.
-Digital output is 7.1 surround sound and 4k resolution

Key Hardware
The design of the controller remains similar to that of its predecessor. However there are a few alterations. The directional pad has been changed to a traditional 4 way design. The start and back button is now replaced with Menu and View, and each trigger will have what is called impulse triggering which allows independent or combined vibrations for different situations.

The Kinect too comes with some upgrades. A 1080p camera as opposed to the VGA of the previous. The accuracy has been improved. Up to 6 figures can be tracked, perform heart rate tracking, track the controllers movements and finally scan QR codes.
-Some nice features are its 3 operating systems. Xbox OS, a windows based OS and a separate one to allow communication between the two.
-Xbox SmartGlass is back and is said to provide extended functionality for the Xbox One.
-Voice Control is back and is more advanced than ever. The new voice command function will allow for Skyping.
-Multitasking is coming to the Xbox One and in a similar form to Windows 8. The ability to snap apps such as Skype, Music Videos, etc to the side for another to use another.
Finally you Xbox one will be able to serve as a portal for your existing set-top box. That means users will be able to watch live TV through the Xbox with added features like recommendations and an electronic program guide.

What you need to know: PS4

As we get closer to the last quarter of the year, we get ready for the last and arguably most anticipated releases of the year. One of them being the Sony's Play Station 4.

So lets get straight to it; here is what you need to know.

Price & Release date:
Come November 15, The PS4 will go on sale in the US region and at a very reasonable price in my opinion of $399. The European Region won't be getting theirs until November 29, and will be available for £349.

Technical specs:
-As expected the PS4 will come with some exceptional hardware.  Its CPU consists of eight x86-64 Jaguar processor developed by AMD & Sony that clocks out at 2.75 GHz MAX.
-The console comes with 8GB of GDDR5 of RAM (16 x more RAM than the PS3).
-A 500GB hard drive is built in of course.
-It's optical drive is a BD 6xCAVDVD 8xCAV. For those who don't know it is capable of reading disk Blu ray disks up to three times faster than the PS3.
-Connectivity capabilities include 802.11 b/g/n wireless, Bluetooth 2.1, USB 3.0 and AUXEthernet 10/100/1000.
-The digital output consist of HDMI (1080p and 4k) and S/PDIF, with a semi custom AMD Radeon GPU.

Key Hardware:
One of the key hardware pieces of the PS4 is the DualShock 4 controller. The new controller comes with the most significant change yet. It comes with a two point touch pad on the front. Another new and very interesting feature is the motion detection sensor. This along with the camera can detect which side of the television you're sitting on in a multi-player situation and switch the screen side.

The PlayStation 4 camera as previously stated is now a motion detecting device. Its equipped with two 1280x800px cameras and have a 85 degree field of view. Also new to the camera is a four-channel microphone array that will allow for voice recognition features.

Another new goody added to the PS4 is the PlayGo feature. For those that always hated downloading a game and  waiting for it to complete to play; the wait is over. You can now begin to play after a portion of the game data is onto the system. The rest will download while you play. For those that prefer playing from the disk, data will be transferred directly to the hard drive to reduce loading time. And yes this feature does include system updates as well. So waiting time is decreased, playing and socializing time is increased.

For those of us that has had to stop playing for whatever reason, we now have a suspend mode. This will enter the PS4 into a low power state and suspend the game instead of terminating.

Finally there will be no backwards compatibility for PS3 games. But there are rumored talks about a cloud based service coming on stream that will emulate previous PlayStation games and make them available to the PS4 and Vita over the Internet.
